Step-by-Step Laundry Guide: Washing
If you want your laundry to smell amazing, get Gain. If you don’t, well, you’re going to have to be the one to tell your nose.
Take your machine washables on a holiday to the laundry room. Sort your clothes by checking the care labels. Washing symbols can be difficult to decipher but you can usually find the ideal wash temperature. The machine wash symbol often looks like a tub of water, if there’s a cross through it, it can’t be machine washed. Separate whites and darks so colors don’t leak and run away!
Do you have a front loader or top loader? Doesn’t matter – Gain works in both. Gain’s pretty easy-going that way. Gain also works in both high-efficiency washing machines and non-HE machines.

4. If you’re using Gain Flings, toss a pac into the drum first – the clothes only come after. This will allow the detergent to properly dissolve during the wash cycle. For small and medium loads use only one pac, for large loads use two pacs and for extra-large loads use three pacs. If you’re using liquid detergent pour it into the dosing cap. Fill until line 1 for medium loads, line 3 for large loads, and line 5 for HE full loads. For powder detergent, fill the drum until line 1 for medium loads, line 3 for large loads, and line 5 for HE full loads. Whichever product you use, always make sure you check the dosing instructions found on the packaging!
5. Can’t get enough of the Gain scent? Try Gain Fireworks, a scent booster that adds 12 weeks of freshness. Pour a capful of Gain Fireworks beads into the drum.
6. Want extra softness and even more Gain scent? Add Gain Liquid Fabric Softener. Fill until line 1 for medium loads, line 2 for HE large loads, and line 3 for HE full capacity loads.
7. Once the detergent, scent booster and fabric softener have dissolved in the water, add the laundry. Don’t overload the drum, 3/4 full is about right. Doing it in this order helps Gain work its best.
